St Andrews University which is based in Scotland has announced that the refurbishment of their library will still be done but spending over £32m less than they originally planned.
Louise Richardson who is the principle of the University said that due to the ‘economic downturn’ they need to re think the extent of that they were spending as £46m to refurbish the library was a bit much.
Ms Richardson said: “Over the last 18 months, the landscape of higher education in the UK has changed markedly. From a position of relative buoyancy and growth, universities are now struggling to manage deep cuts in funding and the certainty of more to follow.
“Many are making staff redundant or closing departments. In St Andrews, these are scenarios which we are determined to avoid if at all possible.”
