Fashioning chairs at interior design show

Montreal’s international interior design show will be opening its doors tomorrow and standing behind them to welcome you will be Jean-Claude Poitras. As for the third year in a row he will be running the show as well as having his own collection being included in the Chair Show which is being held. This is having plain chairs being done up and made lovely and then auctioned off with the money made being given to the Haiti funding.

“I’m trying to give it a little panache and glamour,” he said.

“I want to dress it up properly as a reminder of my past as a fashion designer.”

To that end, he went back to his archives and discovered a photograph from his 1988 collection, which won a Fil d’or award in Monte Carlo.

Poitras chair has been bought from Ikea and been kept very basic, he has kept it 2 tone colours of black and white, and the materials are fabrics which are purposely creased.

Marsha Russell inputs saying “It’s absolutely beautiful, just operatic. Meg wanted someone to bounce ideas off and to find things for her. But she’s the visionary on this project. She has a wonderful aesthetic and a great eye.”

After its finished they will advertise a new upgraded technology which makes them unique, having students of architecture at Lancashire University judging the progress.

The carbon emissions are made to me up to 70% less than any otherrefurbishment work.

7m Refurb on Gwyn Hall

Mathias Architects have now began the refurbishment on Gwyn Hall based in Neath. The hall is a community centre for arts and was ruined back in 2007 when a fire broke out. The new refurbishment will hold a 400 seat theatre, 140 seat studio and a 70 seat cinema as well as a café and entrance area. It should be ready for completion late 2011.

Carolyn Merrifield, director at Holder Mathias Architects, said: “We have worked closely with Neath Port Talbot Council to deliver designs that fully expresses its desire for a quality cultural venue in one of Neath’s landmark buildings.

“The designs were developed to help the council provide a focal point for the community in Neath and across the whole county.”
