St Andrews University Library takes a £32m cut on the refurb.

St Andrews University which is based in Scotland has announced that the refurbishment of their library will still be done but spending over £32m less than they originally planned.

Louise Richardson who is the principle of the University said that due to the ‘economic downturn’ they need to re think the extent of that they were spending as £46m to refurbish the library was a bit much.

Ms Richardson said: “Over the last 18 months, the landscape of higher education in the UK has changed markedly. From a position of relative buoyancy and growth, universities are now struggling to manage deep cuts in funding and the certainty of more to follow.

“Many are making staff redundant or closing departments. In St Andrews, these are scenarios which we are determined to avoid if at all possible.”

Fashioning chairs at interior design show

Montreal’s international interior design show will be opening its doors tomorrow and standing behind them to welcome you will be Jean-Claude Poitras. As for the third year in a row he will be running the show as well as having his own collection being included in the Chair Show which is being held. This is having plain chairs being done up and made lovely and then auctioned off with the money made being given to the Haiti funding.

“I’m trying to give it a little panache and glamour,” he said.

“I want to dress it up properly as a reminder of my past as a fashion designer.”

To that end, he went back to his archives and discovered a photograph from his 1988 collection, which won a Fil d’or award in Monte Carlo.

Poitras chair has been bought from Ikea and been kept very basic, he has kept it 2 tone colours of black and white, and the materials are fabrics which are purposely creased.
